Energy, new SEN: closes on 12 September

The consultation on the new national energy strategy promoted by the government has been postponed to mid-September – the presidents of the parliamentary commissions, Realacci and Epifani have requested it – The expected news

The deadline for consulting the new national energy strategy has been postponed by a few days. It closes on 12 September. The Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of the Environment have taken note of the need for further study in recent weeks. In particular, the Presidents of the Environment and Productive Activities commissions of the Chamber, Ermete Realacci and Guglielmo Epifani, spoke about it.

The government process had been started on 12 June and concluded on 31 August. But numerous contributions and requests for extensions have been received. Realacci and Epifani had actually asked to go ahead until 15 September. But on the 12th, it was decided, it's okay. Engaged in dialogue on environmental issues and related developments in the world of work, the two exponents of the left had written a letter to the Ministers concerned.

“The preparation of the new national energy strategy is closely connected to the commitments to combat climate change in progress and is an important step in understanding the economic, environmental, social and geopolitical future of our country. For Italy's future, ambitious and practicable objectives are needed”.

Not that the Sen elaborated did not contain them, but it was said to express some points better and more strictly. Among the solutions proposed by the two Commission Presidents, the introduction of a horizon to 2050 with the objective of electricity production at 100 % of renewable sources; the drive towards self-consumption and on-the-spot metering through a reduction in system costs; the phase out of coal in electricity generation before 2030.

Also for 2030, 55% of renewable energy sources in electricity production and the simultaneous push towards the use of methane gas are proposed. In this sector the interesting scenario of the use of biogas is opening up, above all to the advantage of large vehicles and maritime transport.

The list of options that Sen must take into account for Realacci and Epifani also includes: the diffusion of recharging points for electric mobility; the simplification of the legislation on renewables, in particular for existing wind and solar plants, and new tax incentive policies in the building sector.

The new strategy is expected by the political and business world above all for medium-term investments which are affected by the objectives on the reduction of polluting emissions and by the commitments of the COP 21 climate conference.

Ministers Calenda and Galletti have tried to make up for lost time, bringing the general principles to the maximum diffusion. The convergence on the guidelines so far has been positive, ensuring that after the passages in Parliament already in 2018 we can have the first signs.
