Enel X strengthens demand response in Poland

Enel X, through its local subsidiary Enel X Polska, has been awarded 696 megawatts of demand response capacity to be supplied in 2024 on the Polish Capacity Market. Thanks to this award, Enel X has grown its demand response portfolio in Poland by 28% compared to 2023, maintaining its 70% share in this segment in the Polish capacity market.

Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X, said: “With this award, we will continue to offer our Polish customers long-term revenue opportunities, helping them to better manage their energy and business costs, while contributing to security of supply in the Polish electricity grid. This positive result responds to the growing demand for DR services in the country and demonstrates the increasing importance these services are destined to have in the Polish energy sector”.

Enel X started providing its first demand response services in Poland in 2017. In the country's capacity market, the company was awarded 446 MW for 2021 and 546 MW for 2022 and 2023. In 2024, demand response services response will represent almost 5% of the country's capacity market, compared to just 2,7% projected for the launch year, 2021.

Demand response programs serve to incentivize end users to change their energy consumption to facilitate grid stabilization as required by the system. By joining these programs, participants receive an annual payment in exchange for their willingness to respond to the needs of the electricity grid.
