Enel X: 300 columns in the major Italian ports

The plan provides for the installation of 300 recharging points for electric vehicles in the areas managed by Assoporti

Enel X has signed an agreement with the Italian Ports Association (Assoporti) which brings together the Port System Authorities (AdSP) of the Eastern Adriatic Sea (Trieste).

The agreement provides for the installation of approximately 300 recharging points at nationally important ports. “The columns – says the company in a note – will be for public use and will offer a multi-vendor top-up service, allowing customers of any operator to use them”.

After requesting the appropriate concessions on the suitable areas identified by the AdSPs, Enel X will take care of the installation, activation and maintenance of the columns for electric vehicles.

The operation is part of the plan for the installation of Enel's electric vehicle charging infrastructure which calls for the installation of around 7 columns by 2020 to reach 14 in 2022, with an investment of between 100 and 300 million euros. The charging network will consist of Quick (22 kW) columns in urban areas and Fast (50 kW) and Ultra Fast (150 kW), for fast charging, in extra-urban areas. The urban recharging network will in fact complete the extra-urban one financed by the EVA+ (Electric Vehicles Arteries) project, co-financed by the European Commission, which envisages the installation, over three years, of 180 recharging points along the Italian extra-urban sections. In 2018, over 2500 charging infrastructures will be installed throughout the country.

“Electric mobility is proving successful not only in large urban centres, but with this agreement it becomes an important tool also available to those who use the electric car to go on holiday. With this agreement it will in fact be possible to recharge your vehicle before embarking it for a tourist destination or on your return to go home - said Alessio Torelli, head of Enel X Italia. “We are therefore satisfied with this partnership which allows us to bring our technology to the docks of the main Italian ports as well”.

“The Association is focusing a lot on sustainability in the port area, promoting studies and insights. This Memorandum of Understanding comes alive with targeted actions in ports in order to encourage the use of electric cars inside them. I am very happy with the signing of this protocol, because it will start a process of environmental renewal - said the President of Assoporti Zeno D'Agostino, on the sidelines of the signing of the protocol.
