Enel, an Italian in the top 5 of Fortune

The magazine publishes the new ranking that rewards companies that have included social issues in their business strategy, and praises Enel for its leadership action in the renewable energy revolution, a result that is usually "expected from small and more ambitious companies than from consolidated giants”.

Enel was included among the top five companies on Fortune's "Change the World" list, the new ranking that rewards companies that have included social issues within their business strategy. The Group, unique utility and the only Italian company to appear on the list, it ranked fifth out of 50 companies selected by the American magazine and was awarded by Fortune for its ability to "break down barriers to the development of clean energy".

The magazine praises Enel for its action of leadership in the revolution of renewables, a result that is usually "expected from small and ambitious companies rather than from consolidated giants", and underlines how renewable sources contributed to 38% of the Group's generation in 2014, a percentage that Enel intends to bring it to 48% over the next four years. To attract the attention and acclaim of Fortune was also the commitment of the managing director Francesco Starace for make Enel “carbon neutral” by 2050.

The Change the World list created by Fortune aims to promote the idea that the capitalism should be celebrated for its ability to bring benefits. For this reason, Fortune and the non-profit and social consulting firm FSG have enlisted a small army of businesses, academics and non-profit experts from around the world to highlight companies that promote the common good as part of their strategy. The Enel Group also ranked at 69th place in the Global 500 index of Fortune, and is the second utility in that list. Ranked for twenty-one years, it owes its good positioning both to the balanced mix of energy generation and to the zero-emission policy among its priorities
