Enel-Terna, the Authority will speak after the Government

Today at the Ministry of Economic Development the meeting between the parties and Undersecretary Saglia. But it's still a wall to wall.

Within this week, or in the first days of next, the Energy Authority will have its say on the dispute between Enel and Terna, the two publicly listed Italian energy companies. Until then, Guido Bortoni, president of the Authority, will not comment on the case out of respect for the parliamentary debate. "We are discussing it and we are evaluating how to intervene - underlined Bortoni - the Energy Authority is competent".
After the verdict of the commissions, which was unfavorable to Terna, the ball passes to the Government, which will soon have to issue the decree for the implementation of the Third EU Energy Package. The Executive will have to decide whether to allow Terna to invest in electricity production and accumulation systems, also taking into account the modification of the concession approved last December.
Meanwhile, this morning the delegations of the two companies met at the Ministry of Economic Development. Undersecretary Stefano Saglia took on the role of mediator. The CEOs of the companies, Fulvio Conti and Flavio Cattaneo, were not present at the meeting. As expected, it was an interim meeting. The two sides reaffirmed their positions to the undersecretary, without retreating an inch. To see more clearly we will have to wait until the next Council of Ministers.
Enel, together with Assoelettrica and the other manufacturing companies, continues to accuse Terna of wanting to invade the generation field with the construction of hydroelectric pumping plants and storage batteries. For its part, Terna lets it be known that "it will not produce and will not sell electricity", however "the concession updated to December 2010 allows for the construction of plants for grid services, i.e. plants for the accumulation of electricity (batteries and pumping) which serve to improve the security and stability of the Italian electricity system, and to reduce energy prices. When fully operational, these plants will allow businesses and households to save over one billion euros a year”.
