Enel and Helbiz have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at accelerating the rate of use of shared scooters and electric bikes through the exclusive use of renewable sources in the main Italian cities.

As of October 12, all Helbiz electric vehicles will be powered by renewable energy certificate provided by Enel Energia at all Italian storage and recharging warehouses in the 14 Italian cities currently covered by the service, including Milan, Rome, Bari, Naples, Turin.

The agreement will last one year and will also allow to Enel group workers to use Helbiz mobility services at favorable conditions and rates.

According to Helbiz calculations, the use of electric scooters will lead to a reduction in the environmental impact of over 1,7 kg of CO2 for each kilometer traveled compared to the use of fossil fuel vehicles. In the first two weeks of operation of the service in September alone, the American company founded by Salvatore Palella points out, as many as 400 tons of CO2 were saved in Italian cities.

"The agreement with Enel is the natural convergence between two companies that look to the future solely from the point of view of the sustainability of our cities", he comments Salvatore Palella, founder and CEO of Helbiz. “We believe that the ability to offer users a fleet of vehicles powered by Enel Energia, with energy that comes 100% from renewable sources is in itself the best guarantee of an efficient and responsible use of the energy resource. For Helbiz, this is a commitment capable of concretely translating our corporate vision in which the role of ESG factors is comparable to the other profitability ratings of the business".

"The ever-increasing use of renewable energy and zero-emission mobility are two fundamental elements of Enel's commitment to the energy transition towards a more sustainable model", he comments Charles Drums, director of Enel Italia – The agreement with Helbiz takes urban micro-mobility a further step forward in terms of sustainability, favoring the environment, people's well-being and the quality of life in cities”.
