Francesco Starace, CEO and general manager of Enel, has been appointed new president of the Union of the European electricity sector Eurelectric, with a two-year mandate. The election, by the board of directors, took place during the association's Annual Assembly in Estoril, Portugal.

“It is a great honor for me to be the new president of Eurelectric, an association that places the European electricity sector at the forefront of the ongoing energy transition – said Starace – The electricity sector is going through an unprecedented transformation, under the impetus of technological innovation, decentralization and the drive towards a greener economy. As president of Eurelectric, I will ensure that all the main stakeholders in the sector are committed to making the electricity industry the main driver of European energy policies, to respond to the great challenges of the energy transition".

Eurelectric – reads a note – represents the common interests of the electricity sector at a pan-European level, with the aim of contributing to its development and competitiveness, ensuring effective representation at an institutional level and promoting an energy mix with low CO2 emissions, as development factor of European society.

The association brings together 3.500 companies across Europe, with a total turnover of 200 billion euros, and deals with all the main topics of interest to the sector: from generation, to markets, to distribution networks, customers and environmental and sustainability issues.
