Enel, MoU with Indonesian utility PNL

The collaboration between the two companies will concern both renewables (especially geothermal) and thermoelectric and mini-grids. Exchanges of know-how and personnel are also in sight.

Enel, MoU with Indonesian utility PNL

Enel and the Indonesian utility PT Pln Persero have signed a Memorandum of understanding for collaboration in the field of sustainable generation in Indonesia. The two companies, according to a note, will evaluate the possibility of developing projects in the field of renewables, conventional generation and mini-grids following the joint evaluation of the local market.

“This agreement – ​​announces Francesco Venturini, head of Enel Green Power for the group's Sub-Saharan region and Asia – marks the beginning of a partnership that recognizes Enel's commitment to developing an operational presence in Indonesia, the largest economy of Southeast Asia". 

“Together with Pln – continues Venturini – we are evaluating the opportunities in all generation technologies in Indonesia. We are thrilled to cooperate with this important player in a country with such interesting prospects thanks to the growing demand for energy and the abundance of resources”.

As part of this agreement, Enel and Pln will share useful information and experiences in both renewables and conventional generation and will explore the opportunities, especially in the field of geothermal, hydroelectric, wind, solar photovoltaic and combined cycle. Enel and PLN will also consider opportunities in mini-grid technology to supply energy to remote areas and islands

Under the agreement, the two companies will carry out, among other activities, training courses, seminars, personnel exchange programmes, studies and research.

Pln is an Indonesian government-owned utility active in the generation and distribution of energy with a capacity in the country of over 46.100 MW. In Asia, Enel owns a majority stake in Blp Energy, one of the leading companies in India in the field of renewables with wind farms for a total capacity of 172 MW and an annual production of around 340 GWh. In addition, Enel owns a minority stake in the mining company Bayan Resources in Indonesia.
