Enel-Metroweb: agreement in sight on fibre, 28 July BoD

Close to the July 20 deadline, the two companies would have reached an agreement by now, so much so that the package could be brought to the table of the Board of Directors convened at the end of the month for the approval of the half-yearly

All set to celebrate the deal Enel-Mtroweb on the fiber? The rumors indicate that the barometer is so positive that the package could arrive on the table board meeting on 28 July, already convened since December to approve the half-yearly. Initially there was talk of a board of directors in early August at the latest.

The news was relaunched by Corcom according to which, in fact, tomorrow's deadline – 20 July – relating to the negotiation period in progress with the shareholders of Metroweb Italia – F2i Sgr and Cdp Equity/FSI Investimenti for the integration between the subsidiary Enel Open Fiber and Metroweb itself will be fully respected, in the sense that there will be no further extensions to the negotiations (the first deadline of July 3rd had been extended to the 20th). It can be deduced that the negotiations should have been successful.

Now, in fact, reported the DowJones agency, it seems that the road is decidedly downhill. Negotiations with Fastweb (shareholder with 10,6% of Metroweb Milano and owner of a lock-up clause that expires in 2017) would have been released to such an extent that the company would be oriented towards giving the green light to the operation with Enel provided it was included in the agreements signed between the energy giant and other operators. A second critical issue would concern the fact that many cities where Enel Open Fiber will arrive with the network have already been wired by Fastweb. For this reason, the operator allegedly made a request for discounted rates on so-called secondary lines, i.e. those that connect the 'cabinet' (wardrobe) directly to the subscriber's premises.

Enel and the shareholders of Metroweb, Cassa depositi e prestiti and F2i, are discussing the merger of the activities of Enel open fiber and Metroweb itself with the aim of creating a single company for the construction of a fiber telecommunications network.

recently theCEO of Enel Francesco Starace had been hinted at the desire to close the agreement soon: "Soon and well - he however underlined - they don't get along, we are trying to do it as soon as possible but it is not a question of buying two newsstands ... even if we need to speed up ”, he added on the sidelines of the presentation of Agcom's annual report to the Chamber of Deputies on 5 July, regarding the decision announced on 3 July to extend the discussion for the possible acquisition until 20 July.
