Enel launches Gridspertise: a company dedicated to the digitization of networks

It is born Gridspertise, the new company of the Group Enel for the digital transformation of smart and sustainable networks. Wholly owned by Enel through its subsidiary Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks, Gridspertise will leverage Enel's expertise in testing, evaluating and large-scale deploying the best technologies for managing smart electricity grids around the world, in order to provide solutions proven to Distribution System Operators (DSOs) of any size worldwide.

Target markets include Europe e Latin america, starting from the countries where the Enel Group has already consolidated its presence and then expanding towards the North America and the region Asia-Pacific where in the short term, investment in smart grids will drive infrastructure upgrade projects.

In particular, the portfolio of products and services offered by Gridspertise is structured around three priority areas of the needs of digitization of DSOs across the entire value chain: digitization of meters and grid edges, digitization of network infrastructures and digitization of field operations.

The solutions and services offered by Gridspertise – reads a note – guarantee benefits to the entire electricity ecosystem. DSOs can improve service quality, reduce operating costs, optimize investments in new infrastructure, and enhance field operational safety, productivity and sustainability. Grid stakeholders, or those who have access to the infrastructure to develop electricity-related business models, can benefit from the transformation of grids into open platforms for distributed energy resources and facilitate the development of the energy services market, also in terms of flexibility and electrification of end uses.

On the other hand, DSO end customers benefit from increased reliability of electricity supply, which facilitates full electrification of energy consumption, promotes energy efficiency through better data control, and allows them to participate in energy markets. 'energy by making it easier for them to become prosumers, thanks to the integration of individual stationary storage or participation in aggregation schemes with their electric vehicles.

“We are proud to launch Gridspertise, to whom we entrust our solid heritage of transforming distribution networks into smart grids all over the world – commented Francesco Starace, CEO and General Manager of Enel -. The energy transition must be based on renewable electricity efficiently distributed by smart grids, open to all players in the energy sector willing to build an all-electric future with us. Reliable and flexible smart grids are the main enabler that will contribute to the achievement of decarbonisation and deep electrification goals, paving the way towards a net-zero emissions future.”

Antonio Cammisecra, Director of the Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks business line, said: “The new initiative brings together the unique skills that Enel has developed by progressively digitizing its networks worldwide, made up of over 2,2 million km of power lines, monitored by hundreds of thousands of remote control points. Enel boasts 20 years of experience in the field of smart meters thanks to massive roll-out projects for a total of over 44 million active devices connected to its networks, as well as efficient digital management of over 30 million field operations performed every year in the 13 distribution companies active in eight countries. This wealth of experience and expertise guarantees that all the solutions that Gridspertise will offer will be reliable and tested on a large scale".

“Gridspertise's mission is to become the trusted partner for DSOs around the world. The company will help power distribution companies of any size and in any region roll out integrated smart grid solutions to meet the evolving needs of grid users and electricity end customers,” he said. Robert Denda, CEO of Grid Expertise.

On the occasion of the event, the logo and corporate identity of Gridspertise were also presented. Furthermore, the company's website and social channels were also inaugurated through which customers and potential customers will be able to receive immediate assistance.
