Enel and Intesa Sanpaolo in the front row for the development and promotion of the circular economy. The two groups – on the occasion of a meeting held in Confindustria opened by the intervention of the Minister of the Environment Gianluca Galletti – confirmed their commitment to the improvement of Italian companies in terms of innovation, competitiveness and environmental performance.

Enel and Intesa have signed – together with Novamont, Costa Crociere, Ferragamo, Bulgari, Fater and Eataly – the Manifesto for the Circular Economy, which involves the leading companies of Made in Italy at an international level.

By circular economy we mean the transformation and revolution of processes and the re-design of products and services. The goal is to overcome the traditional divisions between different industrial sectors, promoting the creation of synergies. Innovation and sustainability must be integral parts of the business and strategic choices of companies, also taking into account the challenges that climate change is posing.

“The circular economy, enabled by technological innovation, is a strategic driver capable of favoring the affirmation of new, more efficient and sustainable business models, as well as overcoming the traditional distinction of phases and roles typical of the linear economy: a process that involves many players across the entire value chain,” said Patrizia Grieco, President of Enel.

"For Intesa Sanpaolo - underlined Mauro Micillo, Head of the Corporate Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo and Chief Executive Officer of Banca Imi - the commitment in the field of environmental sustainability is significant, which has earned us various recognitions, including inclusion in numerous indices and, in particular, in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

It was then presented the National Strategic Positioning Document of the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economic Development. The document, entitled Towards a Circular Economy Model for Italy, is part of the broader National Strategy for sustainable development, contributing in particular to the definition of objectives on the efficient use of resources and sustainable production and consumption models.

“Italy – Minister Galletti said when presenting the document – wants to overcome the great challenge of the circular economy with Europe, which first of all measures the credibility of our international commitments, starting with that of Paris on the fight against changes climatic. Our country - he added - knows it can count on the strength of Italian companies and their ability to anticipate the times, i.e. to understand before others that practices such as regeneration, eco-design and the fight against waste are elements of competitiveness on the market".
