Enel, the largest wind farm in the US

Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power North America, has started construction of the Cimaron Bend Wind Farm which, when completed, will have a total installed capacity of 400 MW and will be the group's largest wind farm in the world.

The plant is owned by Cimarron Bend Wind Project, LLC, a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, and is located in Clark County, Kansas. Once fully operational, Cimarron Bend will be able to generate approximately 1,8 TWh per year, and will be able to satisfy the annual consumption of more than 149 American families, avoiding the emission of approximately 1,3 million tons of CO2 per year.

“This project marks a milestone for Enel, as Cimarron Bend will not only be the largest asset in our portfolio but will also allow our renewable energy to open up to new partners and new uses,” he says. Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel's Global Renewable Energy Division, Enel Green Power. “As we continue to invest and grow in the United States, we look forward to working with partner companies that share our vision for a more sustainable future.”

The energy generated by the plant, which is expected to be operational by 2017, and the related green certificates will be sold under two 200 MW long-term sales agreements (PPAs) signed with Google and the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU). Cimarron Bend is the Enel's first wind farm in North America that will sell part of the energy produced to a private company.

For the construction of the park will be invested approx 610 million dollars as envisaged by Enel's current strategic plan. The project is entirely financed by Group resources.

Currently in North America, Enel, through its subsidiary EGPNA, owns and operates four wind farms in Kansas, making it the largest wind operator in the state with a total installed capacity of nearly 1 GW. EGPNA is present in 21 US states and in two Canadian provinces with a total installed capacity of more than 2,5 GW, of which more than 2 GW of wind, 316 MW of hydro, 72 MW of geothermal and 29 MW of solar.
