Enel Green Power: new wind farm in the USA

The group commissioned the 74 MW Little Elk wind plant capable of supplying 27 families. It is an investment of 130 million dollars. This is the sixth wind farm in Oklahoma where 420 MW have been commissioned since the beginning of 2015

Enel Green Power: new wind farm in the USA

Enel Green Power launches its own sixth wind farm in Oklahoma, USA. The company controlled by Enel (and now close to merging into Enel) through the subsidiary Enel Green Power North America, has put the Little Elk wind farm into operation. This is, a note specifies, the second wind farm put into operation by the renewable energy company in the US state in December, after the 200 MW Goodwell plant.

Little Elk, located in Kiowa and Washita counties, has a total installed capacity of 74 MW and is capable of generating more than 330 GWh per year, enough to meet the energy needs of approximately 27 US households, avoiding atmosphere of about 240 thousand tons of CO2 per year.

The construction of Little Elk required an investment of approximately 130 million dollars, financed in part through a "capital contribution" agreement with Mitsubishi UFj Financial Group. The project is supported by a 25-year power purchase agreement with the People's Electric Cooperative of Oklahoma.

With Little Elk, EGP deployed more than 2015 MW of wind capacity in Oklahoma in 420 alone, more than any other operator in the US state. EGP now manages six wind farms in Oklahoma, which represent 40% of the company's total capacity in North America and produce enough energy to meet the annual consumption of over 330 US households, avoiding the emission of approximately two million tons of CO2 per year.

“The entry into operation of Little Elk strengthens our presence in the United States which thus confirms itself as an important development market for Enel Green Power”, commented Francesco Venturini, Chief Executive Officer of Enel Green Power. “We are demonstrating that we are capable of seamless growth in the US renewables market by rapidly approaching our capacity expansion targets.”
