Enel takes a new step on the green hydrogen path. Enel Green Power (EGP) e Fortescue Future Industries (FFI), an Australian company engaged in the development of renewable green energy, have announced an agreement “to embark on a joint development path in the green hydrogen value chain, initially focusing on Latin america e Australia".

The focus of the two partners is on the decarbonization in hard-to-abbot productive sectors such as the production of fertilizers, other chemicals and steel, as well as shipping and aviation, where hydrogen is used as a feedstock or to generate heat at high temperatures and in where the zeroing of CO2 emissions through electrification is not possible or is more complex. The goal of the two companies is to make thecompetitive green hydrogen cost-wise compared to fossil fuel-based alternatives this decade.

Il CEO of Enel Green Power, Salvatore Bernabei underlines that "the collaboration with a partner like FFI fits fully into Enel's hydrogen strategy aimed at reducing the production costs of green hydrogen through the scale-up of technology and innovative solutions." Mark Hutchinson supports him, CEO of FFI .”Have green energy at competitive costs has never been more necessary. Green hydrogen and ammonia are part of the solution, not only to ensure energy security and to reduce energy costs, but also to fight climate change”.

The partnership is being billed as “an important milestone” for the two partners who plan to build even more large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production sites in Latin America and Australia.
