Enel Green Power Brasil: construction of new solar park under way

Enel Green Power Brasil has begun construction of a solar park in São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Piauí. The new photovoltaic plant is the largest among those under construction in Latin America and will enter service in 2020 with a power of 475 MW. The Enel group will invest around 1,4 billion reais, equal to about 390 million dollars, in this project of its Brazilian subsidiary for renewables.

"The start of construction of this photovoltaic plant consolidates our leadership in the Brazilian renewable sector and confirms once again the importance we attach to the development of solar energy in the country - commented Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel Green Power, the The global renewable energy business line of the Enel Group – São Gonçalo will further contribute to the diversification and resilience of the Brazilian energy mix, supporting a virtuous economic cycle through the long-term supply of sustainable energy”.

Once fully operational, the plant will be able to generate over 1.200 GWh a year, avoiding the emission of over 600 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Of the 475 MW of installed capacity in São Gonçalo, 388 MW were assigned to the Enel Group following the Brazilian public auction A-4 in December 2017 and will be marketed under twenty-year supply contracts to a pool of distribution companies operating on the regulated market of the country. The remaining 87 MW will produce energy for the free market.
