Enel Green Power has started work on the construction of the Esperança wind plant, the last module of the Serra Azul complex, north of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil.

With a total installed capacity of 118 MW, once operational, Serra Azul will be able to generate up to over 500 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption needs of approximately 320 Brazilian families, thus avoiding emissions into the atmosphere of almost 53 thousand tons of CO2.

The energy produced by the wind complex will be sold through supply contracts mainly on the regulated market. The wind complex, owned by Parque Eolico Serra Azul Ltda, a subsidiary of Enel Brasil Partecipaçoes Ltda, will be completed and will enter service by 2015.

The construction of the wind farm complex, in line with the growth objectives established in Enel Green Power's 2014-2018 business plan, required a total investment of approximately 220 million US dollars, partially covered by a loan from the IFC (International Finance Corporation) , a member of the World Bank Group, and a loan from Itaù Unibanco SA, related to the construction of wind farms in northeastern Brazil.
