Enel Green Power strengthens its commitment to the energy transition. The Enel Group company has started construction of the Castelmauro wind farm, in Molise. The plant will be built between the municipalities of Castelmauro and Roccavivara, in the province of Campobasso and it is the second of 5 construction sites that will be launched in the coming months following the award of the Italian GSE auctions.

In detail, the plant will consist of 7 wind turbines of 4,2 MW each, for a total power of 29,4 MW. Furthermore, the Molise plant will produce around 70 GWh each year from renewable sources, corresponding to the supply of energy for about 29 homes, so as to avoid the emission of about 36 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. The entry into operation of the plant is expected by the end of 2021.

Castelmauro is the Group's second wind farm currently under construction among those awarded in recent GSE tenders after Partanna in Sicily, which has already been under construction since last August.

"With the launch of the Castelmauro construction site, we confirm our commitment to the growth of renewable energy in Italy, thus contributing to the energy transition towards the generation of the future", commented Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power and Director of the Global Power Generation Division.

“Already today, both globally and in Italy – continued Bernabei – Enel's production of energy from renewable sources is higher than its thermoelectric production. In line with the Group's global objectives and those of the country, we intend to continue along this path to accelerate the progressive replacement of fossil fuels with zero-emission ones".
