Enel Green Power launches new wind farm in Brazil

Enel Green Power (EGP) has completed and connected to the grid the Dois Riachos wind farm, located in the state of Bahia in Northeastern Brazil. This is the first plant of the Serra Azul wind complex, with an installed capacity of 118 MW, to start production.

Dois Riachos with one installed capacity of 30 MW is capable of generating over 140 GWh per year, equivalent to consumption needs of more than 70 Brazilian familiesthus avoiding the emission of almost 14 tons of CO into the atmosphere2. The Serra Azul complex is made up of three other wind farms: Damascena (30 MW), Maniçoba (30 MW) and Esperança (28 MW). Once completed, Serra Azul will be able to generate over 500 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption needs of approximately 280 thousand Brazilian families, thus avoiding the emission of more than 50 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The Serra Azul complex is held by Wind farm Serra Azul Ltda, a subsidiary of Enel Brasil Partecipaçoes Ltda. The energy produced by the wind farm will be sold through supply contracts mainly on the regulated market. The construction of Serra Azul, in line with the growth objectives set out in EGP's industrial plan, required a total investment of approximately 220 million US dollars, partially covered by a loan from IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the World Bank Group, and a loan from Itaù Unibanco SA, related to the construction of wind farms in North-East Brazil.
