Enel Green Power, through its Indian subsidiary EGP India, has been awarded a 25-year energy supply contract for a 190 MW wind farm in India.

The capacity was awarded as part of the eighth 1,8 GW tranche of the national wind tender launched by the government company Solar Energy Corporation of India.

The wind farm will go into operation in the second half of 2021 and, when fully operational, will be capable of generating over 700 GWh of renewable energy per year. The Indian government has set a target of achieving 100 GW of solar and 60 GW of wind capacity by 2022 compared to around 25 GW of solar and around 35 GW of wind currently installed.

“Thanks to this significant tender award, our presence in India continues to grow,” he said Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel Green Power. “India has already become a global giant in the field of renewable energy thanks to its highly competitive and sophisticated tendering system. We are contributing to this vibrant renewable market through our wealth of technology expertise and our sustainability-focused approach. This success in our second tender in India is a strong demonstration of our commitment, capabilities and competitiveness in the Indian renewable energy market.”
