Enel Green Power participates in the project by Emergency and architect Renzo Piano for the construction of the pediatric surgery hospital in Entebbe, Uganda, which will become the new pediatric center of excellence in Africa.

Enel Green Power will supply 2600 photovoltaic modules thin film produced by EGP's 3Sun factory in Catania, for a total of 289,24 kWp (kilowatt peak). The plant, which can be connected to the local medium voltage distribution network, will allow the new structure to be autonomous and sustainable from an energy point of view.

“We are proud to participate in this project which will allow thousands of African children to be operated on and cared for,” he says Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel's Global Renewable Energy Division, Enel Green Power – For our company, social responsibility also means being present and making a tangible contribution to initiatives that are so important for the populations of the countries in which we operate. The hospital, also thanks to our photovoltaic system, will have a high standard of energy efficiency and will be an example of sustainability and Italian technological excellence".

The photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the hospital in such a way as to guarantee architectural integration, so as to also perform the function of shelter from sunlight and rain for the underlying structures. Enel Green Power will supply both the photovoltaic modules and engineering services and assistance to the construction site during installation and testing, also bearing the cost of transporting the panels.

For the construction of the plant, EGP involved three other Italian donors: Santerno (supply and transport of inverters and other materials), Agatos (design and testing assistance), Terni Energia (supply and transport of materials, installation and testing). The new hospital, designed by the architect Renzo Piano, has a structure fully integrated into the surrounding nature, will have 3 operating theaters and 78 beds, will make a strong contribution to improving health standards in the area and will be a point of reference for children with surgical needs from all over Africa. The hospital will also be a training center for young doctors and nurses from and around Uganda.

The African continent represents an area of great development for Enel Green Power. Currently EGP is present in South Africa with over 400 MW of installed capacity and also has development projects in Zambia, Kenya and Morocco.
