Enel GP: first solar park in India

Enel Green Power wins an important order in India concerning solar energy. Through its renewable energy subsidiary in the Asian subcontinent, EGP India, the group will sign a 25-year contract for the construction of a 420 MW solar park in India, to be precise in the state of Rajasthan. This will be the first EGP solar plant in the country.

Enel GP was awarded the project in the ninth 2 GW tranche of the national solar energy tender launched by the government company Solar Energy Corporation of India.

"This new award demonstrates Enel Green Power's ongoing commitment to expanding its clean and sustainable energy footprint, with the aim of continuing the Enel group's journey towards total decarbonization," he said. Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Green Power.

The solar power plant should start working at the end of the 2021 and will be built thanks to an investment of about 180 millions of dollars. Under the energy supply contract that will be awarded to EGP in light of today's tender, the solar project will supply Seci with the specified volumes of energy for a period of 25 years. The plant will be able to generate more than 750 GWh of renewable energy per year, enough to avoid the annual emission of approximately 681.600 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

“India – added the manager – represents an important market in a strategic geography for our company, as it boasts a wealth of renewable resources and a highly competitive context, combined with a growing demand for energy. We are proud to strengthen our presence in India with our first solar project as we continue to contribute to the achievement of the country's sustainable energy goals while providing clean energy with the latest technologies.”
