Enel confirms the plan to dispose of assets in Romania and Slovakia by the end of 2014

From the meeting in Rimini Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel, confirms the continuation of the asset sale operations in Romania and Slovakia. “The process – of the transfers in Slovakia and Romania – is proceeding in a very orderly and structured way. We are in the period in which the possible buyers are manifesting themselves. We are in the period in which the banks are lining up the various offers. I think we will draw conclusions by the end of the year”. The disposals, which began last July, are part of the industrial plan for the four-year period 2014-2018.

In Slovakia, by the end of the year, 66% of the share capital of Slovenske Elektrarne - owned by Enel through Enel Produzione SpA - will be sold. Slovenske is the main national operator in the electricity generation department and its share market is close to 80%.

In Poland, on the other hand, the situation of Enel's subsidiaries is more complex. The disposal plan will in fact concern 64,4% of the share capital of Enel Distributie Muntenia and Enel Energie Muntenia, 51% of the share capital of Enel Distributie Banat, Enel Distributie Dobrogea and Enel Energie, and finally 100% of the share capital of the service company Enel Romania – held by Enel through Enel Investment Holding. Collectively, the Polish companies operate an electricity grid of around 91.000 kilometers in their regions, where distribution amounts to around 14 TWh per year – representing a 34% market share on a national basis. Sales by Enel's subsidiaries in Poland amount to almost 9 TWh per year, for approximately 2,6 million customers, 2,4 million of whom are residential.
