Enel: Porto Marghera coal plant sold

Enel concluded the sale of the “Giuseppe Volpi” coal plant in Porto Marghera. The thermoelectric plant, which has been inactive for about 3 years, was sold to three subjects who are already present in the Venetian industrial area and deal with port logistics, metal carpentry and plant engineering. These are the companies Porto Invest Srl, Simic SpA and CITI srl.

Two of the three buyers (CITI and Simic) will develop new industrial settlements on the site, while the third (Porto Invest), also through associated companies, will expand its logistics capabilities which it already carries out near the area.

La Porto Marghera plant it is the first Enel plant to be decommissioned as part of the Futur-e project, which involves the redevelopment of 23 thermoelectric plants, many of which are no longer active. The plants in question could not return to production even if electricity demand increased. These are plants (or parts of them) that have completed their life cycle (or are about to do so) and their function.

In Italy there are 23 Enel sites undergoing this transformation, for a total installed power of 13 GW (gigawatt): in addition to Porto Marghera (VE), Trino Vercellese (VC), Alessandria, Genoa, La Spezia, Carpi (MO), Porto Tolle (RO), Livorno, Piombino (LI), Camerata Picena (AN), Pietrafitta (PG), Gualdo Cattaneo (PG), Montalto di Castro (VT), Campo Marino (CB), Larino (CB), Maddaloni ( CE), Giugliano (NA), Bari, Rossano Calabro (CS), Termini Imerese (PA), Augusta (SR), Porto Scuso (CI), Assemini (CA).
