Enel increases sales and distribution, but production decreases

Enel presents its 27 half-year report on Thursday 2017 July. But it anticipated the publication of the report with consolidated operating data. The electricity distributed by the group increased (+3,7%, to 217,7 Terawatthour, i.e. billion kilowatthour) and the quantity of electricity sold was also growing (+5,8% to 138,6 Twh) . On the other hand, the net production of the Enel group fell by 7% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period of 2016, reaching 57.872 GWh. In the first half a drop of 5% was recorded to 121,164 GWh.

The data emerges from the report on group operating data, which is published in advance of the economic-financial quarterly which will be examined by the Board of Directors. In the second quarter, hydroelectric production, thanks to the drought, suffered a decline of 23% to 13.424 GWh (-15% in the half year), that sustained by coal instead advanced by 11% to 16.635 GWh (+7% in the half year) and the most conspicuous item was confirmed (28,8% of the total in the first six months of the year at 34.843 GWh), followed by hydro (22,7% of the total at 27.559 GWh in the half year). Combined cycle gas generated production up 12% in the second quarter to 9.832 GWh (+17% in the half year to 20.447 GWh) and is the third item in the table published by Enel (16,9% of the total).

Group installed capacity was 82.946 MW in the half year (-4.104 MW compared to a year earlier). In relation to this figure, Enel notes that the consolidated perimeter excludes the capacity managed in joint ventures in the USA and Italy for 2,2GW. 

In Italy, a total of 31,5 million customers are stable (26,4 million in electricity and 4 million in gas). Energy sales on the regulated market decreased by 5,6% to 21,4 Twh but on the free market they rose to 28 Twh, with an increase of 23% on the first half of 2016. The same trend for retail customers: down by 5,9% to 18.9 million on the regulated market; up by 7,5 million (+13%) on the free market.
