Enel, the School-Work apprenticeship program is underway

The programme, created in synergy between Enel, the Miur and the Ministry of Labor thanks to the provisions of the Buona Scuola and Jobs Act, was presented this morning in Rome – The Enel group will hire 140 fourth and fifth year students from the technical institutes of seven Italian regions – Poletti: “A model of collaboration between school and work to improve the employability of young people”.

The new school-work apprenticeship program for the 2016/17 school year, developed by the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, was presented this morning at the Enel headquarters in Rome and Enel, who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Giuliano Poletti, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of 'Education, University and Research, Gabriele Toccafondi and the CEO of Enel Francesco Starace.

"This initiative carried out thanks to the synergistic application of the provisions introduced with the Buona Scuola and the Jobs Act, represents a good model of collaboration between school and the world of work for the improvement of the employability of our young people and their entry into the world of work ” emphasized the Minister Poletti.

"Promoting successful experiences like this - he added - helps to spread the use of this important tool of integration between school education and company experience with which we want to guarantee our young people the acquisition of a wealth of skills, experience and knowledge increasingly essential".

"With the Enel apprenticeship model we have the concrete demonstration that the Italian way to the German dual system exists and works - said the Undersecretary Gabriele Toccafondi – A path which, in its 2014-2016 experimentation, led to the hiring by the company of 136 young people who graduated this summer and which will start again this year with another 140 fourth and fifth grade apprentices who will follow the project for the next two-year period".

The results, according to Toccafondi, can already be seen: "The monitoring carried out, from the results of the ballots, show us that the young people included in the ENEL project have obtained higher average marks than the others, this means that there is no "training" in alternation , but school, you train with the knowledge and skills to acquire skills in solving concrete problems to be ready to face the world of work".

"After the success of the first trial, we are proud to present the new school-work apprenticeship program created in synergy between ministries, training institutions and the company - said the CEO of the Enel Group Francesco Starace – At the basis of this method of insertion there are clear advantages for both actors: for the company, which invests in young people and their training; for students, who thus have the opportunity to carry out training activities more in line with technological innovation and the needs of the world of work, while simultaneously gaining initial professional experience".

At the end of the fifth year, with the conclusion of the scholastic path and the achievement of the diploma, for the students of the institutes concerned, taking into account the evaluation of merit of the path carried out in the company, a second phase of professionalizing apprenticeship of one year is envisaged. The duration of the overall apprenticeship period will be 36 months.

During the school year the apprentices will spend one day a week in the company, carrying out a training program mainly focused on the laboratory and on the specific skills required, while during the summer period they will be in the company full time for on-the-job training.

The idea of starting the experimental project arose from the need to optimize the management of turnover in the company's technical-operational positions, anticipating the entry of apprentices into the company already during the course of their schooling and sharing more aligned theoretical contents with the school to industrial needs and an on-the-job training experience aimed at completing individual training.

The project was made possible by the regulatory framework which, with Legislative Decree 81/2015 and the subsequent Interministerial Decree of 12 October 2015, established the school-work apprenticeship as a further method of entry into the company.
