Enel in New York with electric Formula 1

The Italian electric group is the official power partner of the race which starts from Brooklyn and takes place in the 5 districts of New York with 40 all-electric single-seaters. President and CEO, Patrizia Grieco and Francesco Starace, rang the bell on Wall Street during the traditional closing ceremony of the Stock Exchange session

The Fia Formula E Championship comes to Brooklyn for the Qualcomm ePrix in New York City . The grand prix will take place today and tomorrow, July 15 and 16, and is the first auto race to take place in the 5 boroughs of New York in modern history at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Enel is the Official Power Partner of the grand prix which, for the first time this year, will be zero-emissions thanks to the partnership with the Italian electricity group which will make its contribution to the reduction of emissions related to the setting up and power supply of the events of Formula E thanks to its smart energy solutions. In addition to renewable energy generation, storage and management technologies – Enel will completely offset the emissions of the New York event through emission reduction certificates relating to its portfolio of renewable plants, such as Enel Green Power's Stipa Nayaa wind farm of 74 MW, in Mexico.

Stipa Nayaa wind turbines avoid placing over 133 thousand tons of CO2 per year, equal to the elimination of 26 thousand cars.

The group communicated this in a note, specifying that before the Brooklyn event, Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Formula E, together with the president of Enel, Patrizia Grieco, the CEO of Enel, Francesco Starace, and Ken Allen , CEO of DHL Express, rang the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange.

The group participated in the closing ceremony of the Stock Exchange session and laid for photos on the balcony overlooking the Wall Street bargaining hall, along with some of the stars of the FIA Formula E championship - the first winner of the Formula E championship NextEV NIO's pilot, Nelson Piquet Jr, and Felix Rosenqvist, the winner of the Berlin ePrix race for Mahindra Racing.

40 electric single-seaters will participate in the New York race which, with batteries and spare parts, arrived with DHL by ship, thus reducing emissions compared to transport by air.

Enel's partnership with FE started in 2016. At the New York ePrix, for the first time in the championship, Enel will use bifacial solar panels for the 5KWp photovoltaic generation system that will power the group's stand located in the eVillage. The bifacial solar panels allow for a 40% increase in energy efficiency, compared to the conventional ones used in previous tenders.

Also new to the FE championship, will be the introduction of a large-scale storage system with a nominal energy output of 250 kW compared to an energy storage capacity of 500 kWh, in addition to a 8 kWh energy storage combined with the photovoltaic system, already used in previous FE events. The industrial-scale storage system will supply energy to specific areas of the Paddock, increasing the power and stability of the grid, reducing energy peaks through the process known as "peak shaving".
