Here comes the "virtual gardener". It will help enthusiasts, but also professionals in the sector, to design green areas in full respect of nature, based on the geographical area and environmental characteristics. Is called Anthosart Green Tool and it is the "fruit" (it is appropriate to say it...) of the homonymous project coordinated by ENEA, the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, which thus aims to reduce management costs of green areas and water consumption, but also to discover possible alternative uses of plants in food and crafts and their links with art, literature, music and the territory.
The new green thumb tool is available online and also free to download on smartphones and tablets. AND' designed for nurserymen, planners, administrators but also for private citizens, and allows you to select a set of species present in our country from the over 1.400 available in the database to set up green spaces and acquire information capable of promoting the environmental and cultural value of greenery.
In practice, after entering the data relating to the geographical area, altitude of interest, type of infrastructure to be built (flower bed, rock garden, avenue, etc.), type and preferred colors, level of brightness, humidity and salinity of the soil , The gardener can easily access all the information on the most suitable species, but also to photographs, botanical cards, cultural insights, practical advice and useful links.
The green sector, on the other hand, is a growing sector. According to recent studies, the value of Italian horticultural production exceeds 2 billion and 500 million euros, with over 27 companies, 29 cultivated hectares and 100 workers. The overall expenditure for gardening consumption in Italy exceeds 2 billion and 700 million euros and with a constant growing trend in the five-year period 2017-2022. The European and world data are also positive with a turnover exceeding 34 and 86 billion dollars respectively.
"The richness of our flora, with over 7 thousand species, and the ability to adapt to the various environmental characteristics of the territory, offers great opportunities for green design and also responds to the need to diversify the offer of the nursery sector", underlines Patrizia Menegoni of the ENEA division of protection and valorisation of the territory and natural capital. "Gardens, borders, flower beds, roofs and green walls can become places of connection between green infrastructures and the natural landscape to bring nature back to the city and build more sustainable urban green", he adds.
