Enea and Fincantieri sign an agreement for new technologies in the energy field

In addition to the projects, the Italian research body and the industrial giant will also exchange personnel. Experiments on hydrogen and the capture of CO2 are strategic points. Fincantieri has invested 160 million euros.

Enea and Fincantieri sign an agreement for new technologies in the energy field

Another partnership. Aeneas later understood with EnelGP and CNR for the development of sustainable technologies, has also signed a protocol with Fincantieri to identify areas of common interest for research and innovation programmes. The two subjects will work on energy efficiency, energy generation systems from renewable sources, production, transport and distribution of hydrogen, fuel cells, sustainability in the marine and terrestrial environment. In the coming days, specific working groups will be activated with the possibility of an exchange of personnel between ENEA researchers and personnel of the Trieste group.

THE SYNERGIES

Through the agreement, ENEA has the objective of promoting a wider dissemination of culture and scientific research in the sectors in which it has recognized expertise. Fincantieri wants to increase its role as global technological leader in its business sectors. The challenges for both are high-profile and require adequate policy contexts. Investing without research has high risk margins. The synergies that can arise from good national realities essentially interpret the country's modernization effort. “This agreement paves the way for a collaboration between research and business of particular significance, with a leading international group on issues such as sustainability, higher education, research and the transfer of innovation, increasingly strategic for growth and competitiveness” said the ENEA President Gilberto Dialuce.

HYDROGEN AND CO2

Among the sectors on which the Authority will discuss with Fincantieri, the applications on the use of hydrogen as a clean source and the capture of CO2 which is deeply felt in the maritime sector. There is the need to speed up, evidently, in order not to chase after countries, industries and patents in two such interesting fields. Fincantieri, which has invested 160 million euros in decarbonisation and digitization projects in recent years, sees the agreement as confirmation of an innovative strategy. "60% of our R&I expenditure fuels the development of clean technologies that will help create more eco-sustainable products and services, oriented towards an efficient use of resources and the protection of biodiversity" was the comment of Joseph Bono, CEO of Fincantieri. In fact, the agreement should not only consolidate the good results achieved to date, but also support the Group's future competitiveness in global scenarios. And 2022 has just begun.
