Enav has launched new procedures that will allow for increased operations at Genoa Airport, reducing waiting times and promoting lower fuel consumption. Technically they are called Required navigation performance and "allow aircraft to follow an extremely precise path between points in space identified through the use of satellite navigation systems", explains Enav in a note.
The procedure was published for runway 28 on 10 September and will be operational for runway 8 from 10 October.
“In Italy, the implementation of satellite procedures has always represented a strategic objective – commented the president of ENAC Nicola Zacchaeus – and ENAC actively participates internationally, ICAO in primis, in the definition of technical regulations. Precisely to facilitate the implementation of flight procedures based on the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), ENAC has developed specific legislation and a national implementation plan, jointly with ENAV, also based on vertically guided approach procedures, with which it is possible to increase flight safety and increasingly guarantee the efficiency of the system”.
The Chief Executive Officer of Enav Paolo Simioni he declared: “For Enav, investments in innovative technologies represent a strategic asset to ensure safety, efficiency and continuity of service. Genoa represents a fundamental port of call for the Italian logistics system. We are convinced that thanks to this implementation there will be immediate benefits for the territory and for all related industries. The excellent coordination with the management company and with the bodies in charge has guaranteed an excellent result and on schedule».
