ENAV, 2 million agreement with Libya

A new agreement connects the Italian and Libyan skies: Enav, the company that manages civil air traffic in Italy, has stipulated a contract with the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, the corresponding Libyan company, for themodernization of the equipment of the control tower of the International Airport of Tripoli. The total value of the contract amounts to 2 million and includes an option of 900.000 euros for the supply and installation of weather components.

In detail, the contract provides for the supply and installation of 3 new workstations for air traffic controllers, infrastructure for data and wireless networks, integration and commissioning of communications systems.

The new technical and operational infrastructures will ensure the provision of all air navigation services aimed at guaranteeing the airport's full operation and safety. The completion of the works is expected by 2019.

ENAV already collaborates with the Libyan aviation authorities and is currently engaged in work for the construction of the new control tower and the technical block of the International Airport of Mitiga, the other Tripoli airport, which is currently operating thanks to a mobile control tower supplied by ENAV.

ENAV's managing director Roberta Neri commented: “For ENAV, operating in Libya is of strategic importance: in fact, the southern area of our airspace borders on Libyan airspace, which is currently subject to severe restrictions on commercial flights. In March the new Mitiga control tower will be completed, by the end of next year both Tripoli airports will be fully operational thanks also to our support”.
