The frost wave did to skyrocket internal gas consumption in Italy, bringing it to record levels of 440 million cubic meters per day. This was reported by the Ministry of Economic Development in a press release which refers to the activity of the Committee for monitoring and the gas emergency (which will meet today).

The press release noted how gas flows from France and Russia's Gazprom have dropped, also due to the inconvenience caused by the cold, but also that at the same time adequate countermeasures have been taken to diversify gas entry flows, increasing imports from Africa.

Minister Passera also addressed the issue, on the sidelines of the Mobility Conference, declaring that they have already been activate emergency measures and that further new steps have already been prepared to be set in motion if necessary. “We live every day with the gas and energy control room – these are his words – yesterday we decided to move to alert level because they have proven to be the highest in history, so we must be prepared for higher-than-expected demands".
