Elon Musk launches xAi: the artificial intelligence that wants to reveal the true nature of the universe

New adventure in the field of technological innovation for Elon Musk. The South African billionaire has announced the launch of XAI, a new company focused onartificial intelligence. The goal of xAI is ambitious: “to understand the true nature of the universe”. The company will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla and other companies to make progress towards this goal.

xAi was registered in April and will have the headquarters in the state of Nevada.

Why the creation of xAi

Musk explained on twitter le reasons which prompted him to create this new artificial intelligence.

“The best thing I can do, from the point of view of AI security, is to create one that can understand the nature of the universe” said the entrepreneur who then added: “I think xAI will be in favor of humanity in this sense: humanity is much more interesting than non-humanity”.

Musk, along with other experts, signed a letter in March calling for a six-month suspension of generative AI training, such as that used by Chat GPT, to avoid negative economic and social consequences.

The tycoon also answered a question regarding the possible consciousness of artificial intelligence. “I often wonder where consciousness begins, as we go from one cell to 35 trillion cells. If the Standard Model is correct, quarks and leptons become 'conscious' no later than 13,8 billion years after the birth of the Universe, assuming there are no sentient aliens,” Musk explained.

The xAi team

Il xAI team, led directly by Musk himself, is made up of 11 Guests who have work experience in leading companies that develop artificial intelligence, such as OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research and DeepMind. The initial team members are: Igor Babuschkin, Manuel Kroiss, Yuhuai (Tony) Wu, Christian Szegedy, Jimmy Ba, Toby Pohlen, Ross Nordeen, Kyle Kosic, Greg Yang, Guodong Zhang, Zihang Dai.

One of the supervisors of xAI will be Dan Hendrycks, currently director of the Center for AI Safety, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco. It was the Center that published the letter underlining the risks related to artificial intelligence, comparing them to those of nuclear weapons and pandemics and in which it is hypothesized that without correct regulation of AI, humanity risks extinction. The letter was signed by over 250 AI experts, including Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, considered together with Yann LeCun of Meta the pioneers of modern machine learning based on deep learning.

La presentation of the xAi team will happen Friday July 14 during a live audio on Twitter. The time of the event is yet to be determined.

Google's Bard arrives in Italy

Meanwhile, it arrives in Europe and in Italy, Bard Generative Artificial Intelligence software by Google, direct rival of Chat GPT. Now Google's AI speaks and understands more than 40 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, German, Hindi and Spanish, becoming accessible in many more countries, including Brazil and all of Europe. They are also added new features to help users better personalize their experience.

Bard immediately promises to respect la privacy of identification: "Bard draws on information on the web to provide up-to-date and high-quality answers" explained Google "we have consulted with experts, legislators and regulatory bodies, including the Guarantors for data protection, to understand their point of view and the their directions. We have taken steps to help people handle information responsibly."

Bard, second Jack Krawczyk, director of product at Google, "represents a different experience than Google search and introduces a new paradigm in using the computer." Bard's goal is to make "computer interaction accessible to all." The expansion of the chatbot, launched in beta in March "is the largest so far, our approach is ambitious and responsible" explained the director of Bard.
