UK elections: Johnson triumphs, Brexit already within the year

Triumphal victory of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservatives in the British elections. Now the Brexit it is very close and will be voted on in the British Parliament within the year, perhaps even before Christmas. With this roadmap, the exit of the United Kingdom from the EU on 31 January, the date from which the transition period will begin which will last at least until the end of 2020.

Johnson conquered the absolute majority of the Parliament with 364 seats, gaining 46 and securing a margin of no less than 80 seats.

Corbyn's Labor defeat is sensational, the heaviest since 1935, which has paid dearly for the maximalist turn and has lost 59 seats compared to two years ago, winning only 203 in all. Labor is in revolt and many are calling for immediate Corbyn's resignation, considered the real responsible for the electoral disaster. "It is obviously a very disappointing night for the Labor Party - said Corbyn, announcing "a process of reflection" - I will not lead the party in any other campaign for the general elections".

48 (+13) the seats won by the Scottish National Party, 11 (-1) for the Lib Dems, whose leader Jo Swinson, has resigned. The Dup finally obtained 8 (-2) seats. In percentage terms, the Conservatives won 43,6%, Labor 32,3%, the Lib Dems 11,5%, the SNP 3,9%. We recall that in the British electoral system the rule of “First past the post”: candidates who obtain more votes than the others within their constituency enter Parliament, for this reason there can be some differences between seats and the popular vote.

With numbers like this, Johnson wants to forge ahead and it is possible that already before Christmas, probably on December 21, the Brexit agreement is voted in the new Parliament which will pass in the House of Lords before the end of the year. "We will go all the way with Brexit" said the Premier in his first speech after the electoral triumph.

In addition to Brexit, which will isolate Great Britain and also disrupt the current structure of the European Union, Johnson wants to immediately keep his electoral promises on health by hiring 6 new doctors to improve the British health system.

“Thank you to everyone in our great country, to those who voted, to those who volunteered, to those who ran for candidates. We live in the largest democracy in the world,” Johnson commented. “We have caused an earthquake, we will go through with Brexit".

The first to congratulate the Prime Minister was Donald Trump: “Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his fantastic WIN! Britain and the US will now be free to conclude a major new trade deal after BREXIT. This deal has the potential to be much bigger and more profitable than any deal that could be made with the EU."

'I have already congratulated my friend Boris Johnson. We have an excellent personal relationship, we have remained that we will soon exchange visits, he in Rome and I in London: I am confident that we will be able to increase economic, commercial and cultural relations", declared the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, who on Brexit added: "Boris Johnson's victory in the British elections so clean and clear allows us to envisage an orderly exit" of the United Kingdom from the EU "by January 31 as planned, then obviously a negotiation awaits us on the trade until December 31 next year and it will be a difficult negotiation because times are short”.
