Elections: Grillino triumphs in Rome and Turin while the Democratic Party prevails in Milan

Sensational exit polls and the first projections of municipal elections in big cities - The 5 Star Movement triumphs in Rome where Raggi doubles Giachetti of the Democratic Party and becomes the first female mayor of the capital and in Turin where Appendino surprisingly beats the outgoing mayor of the Democratic Party Fassino - In Milan, Renziano Beppe Sala prevails over Parisi of the center-right - The results of Bologna are discounted, where Merola (Pd) wins, and of Naples, where De Magistris is confirmed as mayor

Elections: Grillino triumphs in Rome and Turin while the Democratic Party prevails in Milan

If the first projections of the municipal elections are confirmed, the 5 Star Movement triumphs in Rome with Raggi and, surprisingly, in Turin where Appendino overtakes Fassino, the Democratic Party defends Milan with Beppe Sala imposing himself on Parisi from the centre-right, while in Outgoing mayors prevail in Bologna and Naples with Merola (Pd) and De Magistris (left).

Virginia Raggi's victory in the capital was sensational, where she doubled the Democratic Party candidate, Roberto Giachetti: for the first time a woman becomes mayor of Rome and for the first time the grillini will be called to administer a large city and will no longer have alibis. Either they will be able to demonstrate that they are able to move from protest to good governance or today's success will evaporate quickly but of course it is in the city's interest that the Grillo experiment succeed and the Democratic Party has already made it known that the Government will collaborate with the new Capitoline administration.

The result in Turin is also sensational, where the grillina Chiara Appendino surprisingly prevails over the outgoing mayor, Piero Fassino, historical figure of the Democratic Party and president of the Anci.

The Democratic Party takes its cue from Milan where Beppe Sala, the former Expo commissioner and centre-left candidate for mayor personally wanted by Matteo Renzi, is prevailing over the centre-right candidate Stefano Parisi.

On the other hand, the results of Bologna and Naples are taken for granted: in the Emilian capital, the outgoing Pd mayor Merola is clearly in the lead over the legalist Bongarzoni, while in Naples the mayor De Magistris has a great advantage over the centre-right candidate Lettieri.

The electoral result will have no effect on government stability but the signal for Matteo Renzi is decidedly negative. And the prime minister will have to take this into account in view of the constitutional referendum in October.
