Trento elections, the center-left wins hands down

In Trentino Alto Adige, a clear victory for the centre-left is looming. The two provinces of Trento and Bolzano voted yesterday for the renewal of the two provincial councils, for the election of the new president of Trento and for the regional council, made up by statute of councilors from the two provinces. In fact, both in Bolzano and for the Region, the councilors will elect the president.

In Trento Ugo Rossi will be the new governor: the centre-left coalition obtains the absolute majority of votes, with the Democratic Party holding the positions of 2008 with 21,9% (5 years ago it took 21,62%), but loses two points with respect to policies. Real surge for Patt, the Trentino Tyrolean autonomist party, in the center-left coalition, which is over 17%, but started 5 years ago from 8%.

As for the centre-right, the Northern League has dropped from 14% five years ago to the momentary 6% today; the PDL reached 2008% in 12,2, but this time it did not present itself with its own list, swallowed up by the civic lists. The 5 Star Movement, which had had 20% in politics, today does not reach 6%. Sharp drop in turnout: 62,8% against 73,1% in 2008.

In Bolzano, the SVP remains the leading party, but risks falling below an absolute majority of seats for the first time. Sudtiroler VolksPartei (at 48% five years ago) drops to 45,7%. The Democratic Party shows a slight upward trend (+0,7%), while the centre-right pays for the great fragmentation of the lists: the Forza Italia - Lega Nord tandem stops at 2,5%, against 10% in 2008. Below the 3% also the Five Star Movement, which at the latest policies had reached 8,3%.
