Elections: Monti, endorsement in sight at the Centre

He will not stand as a candidate in the elections, but the endorsement to the federation of the forces of the Center will do so - To support him Montezemolo and related groups, the UDC of Casini and the Montiani leaving the PDL with the appendix of Fini - Target: 20% of consensus and become decisive in the Senate, where an alliance with the Democratic Party is possible, but without Vendola.

Elections: Monti, endorsement in sight at the Centre

In the next general elections he will not run as a senator for life, but the endorsement to the federation of the forces of the center that refer to his political platform will certainly do so. Mario Monti has decided, writes Fabio Martini on the front page of "La Stampa", the most accredited of the parliamentary journalists who follow the Prime Minister's moves on a daily basis. In the coming days, compatibly with the parliamentary progress of the Stability Law, with the consequent resignation of the Government, Monti will make his announcement with the aim of giving continuity to the healing action of his government. The federation of the forces of the center that Monti will support, even without running as a candidate, will mainly include "Towards the Third Republic" by Luca Cordero Montezemolo and related groups, the UDC by Pier Ferdinando Casini and the Montiani leaving the PDL (led by former ministers Frattini and Pisanu) with the appendix of Fli by Gianfranco Fini. With the added value of the symbolic reference to Monti and his government action, the goal of the center alignment is to reach 20% of the votes and to become decisive in the Senate for the formation of an Executive led by Bersani's Pd. In that case, however, Monti - beyond the government or institutional positions that would be proposed to him - will ask for the exclusion of the more radical wing of the left headed by Nicky Vendola to give his green light to the birth of the new executive. If this is the political perspective - notes Martini - the controversies between Monti and the Democratic Party are destined to dilute and they could find themselves allies, albeit with different roles, in the next legislature and in the next government, even if the premier's discontent towards the rough Massimo D'Alema's words against his descent into the field.

From an electoral point of view, the formations of the center will present themselves with separate lists in the Chamber - because in this way Montezemolo and groups such as Ernesto Auci's Independents for Italy want to underline their distinction from more traditional forces such as the UDC - while they will converge on only one list in the Senate.
