Elections Greece, Tsipras wins again: new Syriza-Anel government today

Tsipras' party wins with 35,5% of the preferences (against 28% for Nea Democratia) and will form a new government with Anel's old allies and the moderates of To Potami – The Premier: “From tomorrow we will begin the great battle to change relations in Europe”.

In the end it wasn't a heads up. The third elections in Greece in the last eight months ended with a clear success for the alternative left party Syriza, which won 35,5% of the vote (145 seats, six fewer than needed to have an absolute majority) against 28,09% of the Conservatives of Nea Democracy (75 seats). In third position the neo-Nazis of Golden sunrise with 6,99% (18 seats).

THEaffluence it stopped at 56,5%, against 63,9% in January.

Already today the leader of Syriza and outgoing premier, Alexis Tsipras, will train a new government with old allies, the nationalists of Anel (who won 10 seats with 3,69% of the votes). 

Onward with the second term, therefore, because "we die hard" and because "now the fight begins: this is the victory of the people, of those who dream of a better tomorrow", he commented Tsipras.

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart – he added – for this great victory. It was a difficult battle but we were right. Thanks to the young people for this battle. The Greek people have given us a clear mandate for the next four years: we must finish with everything that keeps us nailed to yesterday. Syriza dies hard. From tomorrow we begin the great battle to change relations in Europe. From tomorrow we will work hard for a Greece of equality and social justice, for the good of our country”. 

As for the other parties, dissidents stopped below 3%. Popular unity – founded by Syriza exiles – who failed to cross the threshold to enter Parliament.

Off the podium the socialists of supply, finished fourth with 6,28% of the vote (17 seats). Disappointment even for the moderates of To Potami (at 4,09%, equal to 11 seats).
