European elections: Lega triumphs, Pd recovers, M5S collapses

La Alloy breaks through and reaches its all-time high by conquering, with the counting almost completed, the 34,3%, just under double what it had collected at the 2018 political elections (17,4%) and more than five times the votes collected at the 2014 European elections (6,2%). Instead, its government ally collapses, the 5 Star Movement, which stops at 17% (against 32,7 for Policies and 21,2% for the latest Europeans), a threshold destined to open political processes in the ranks of the grillini. Retrieve the Pd which surpasses the Five Stars by conquering the 22,7%, a level very far from the 40% that Matteo Renzi had reached in the previous European elections but above the fateful 20% and in particular above the Five Stars (at the 2018 Politics the dem were at 18,8%).

Brothers of Italy stands at 6,5%, an increase compared to the Policies, and they are a candidate to form an alliance with Salvini, while disappointing Forza Italy by Silvio Berlusconi, who stops at the8,8% (in Politics it was 14), clearly below the 10% which was considered the vital minimum in order not to fear the dispersion of the party. Finally, they do not reach the 4% quorum and therefore will not enter the new European Parliament + Europe by Emma Bonino, which stops at 3,1%, and The left (1,7%).

At the national level it is clear that such a result will not be without consequences, despite the leader of the League Salvini ruled out a government crisis. But we have to see if, after the defeat, it will not be the Five Stars who leave the Government and, in any case, if the yellow-green Executive continues, it will not be as before but the center of gravity will shift clearly to the right in favor of the League. It is no coincidence that Salvini said that we need to speed up the implementation of the government contract, giving priority to safety and flat tax.

A good result has been achieved by Zingaretti's Democratic Party which, bypassing the Five Stars, becomes the second national party and could be induced - in the next legislature - to approach the Five Stars, which however would almost certainly cause the divorce of the reformist group headed by to Renzi.

Now we await the results of the administrative offices and above all of Piedmont, where the first projections give the right, Florence and Bari the advantage, as well as the other provincial capitals.
