In the early general elections in Austria they won hands down the Populars by Sebastian Kurz with 38,4% of the votes (+6,9% compared to the 2017 vote). Seconds the social democrats of the Spoe, which fell to 21,5% (-5,3%), the worst result ever. It falls steeply the ultra-right of the Fpoe, which – overwhelmed four months ago by the Ibizagate scandal – even lost 8,7%, stopping at 17,3%. Instead, they date back to i Verdi to 12,4% (+8,6), who after a period of purgatory return to Parliament also thanks to the renewed centrality of environmental issues. And the liberal Neos to 7,4 (+2,1).

Now Kurz has to put on his feet a coalition government which will also have an impact on the balance of the European Union. Among the different options, the most accredited are one big koalitions with the Social Democrats or a majority with Greens and Liberals.

“We were convinced that we would collect a good result, but nobody expected a success of this magnitude – Kurz said, greeting his supporters from the stage in Vienna – It's been a difficult four months, but the Austrians brought us back here. I'm not usually at a loss for words, but today I'm close to it. This is a big vote of confidence that we will respect. We will do our best for this beautiful country."

Cala the turnout but still remains remarkable, with 76,6%. At the 2017 policies, 80% of those entitled went to the polls. 6,4 million Austrians were called to the polls, one out of six voted by mail.
