According to the latest polls, the outgoing mayor is favored with 42,1% of the voting preferences, abundantly doubling all the other candidates - The real contest, however, will be seen at the time of the ballot in which the Pd-centre-right alliance will also battle on the plan for the rebirth of Bagnoli – The M5S candidate Matteo Brambilla tries to take advantage of it

Elections in Naples: Pd and centre-right challenge de Magistris

The strong name, among the ten candidates for mayor of Naples, is that of Luigi de Magistris. According to the latest polls published by Demos, the outgoing mayor of the orange movement would receive 42,1% of the votes, abundantly doubling any pursuer. Behind him is the centre-right candidate with 19,7%. Gianni Lettieri (FI), followed by the grillino Matthew Brambilla with 17,3% and by the Pd candidate Valeria Valente with 16,4%.

If you went to the ballot, again according to Demos data, de Magistris would easily defeat his three main opponents, receiving more than 60% of the votes against each of them.

Behind the four main candidates are Marcello Taglialatela (Brothers of Italy and Naples Terra nostra), Luigi Mercogliano (People of the Family); Martina Alboreto (Brothers of the Italian people), Domenico Esposito (Quality of life for Naples), Nunzia Amura (Italian Communist Party) and Paolo Prudente (Communist Workers' Party).

The reconfirmation of the current mayor, numbers in hand, would therefore seem a formality, even if some scenarios envisaged in the last few days could reopen a glimmer of racing. Due to the highly probable ballot, the possibility of a de facto alliance between the Pd and center against de Magistris. A possibility whose prelude seemed to be the tactical alliance between the Pd himself and Denis Verdini's Ala list.

In recent days, M5S candidate Matteo Brambilla has also spoken of this possible Nazarene pact in a Neapolitan version: "There is no need for an alliance between the Pd and Forza Italia because there is an absolute identity between Valente and Lettieri". Brambilla who, for his part, disdains de Magistris' winks at his movement.

A few days before the elections in Naples, everyone is chasing the candidate of the orange movement, who seems to have a comforting margin of advantage, even in the event of a Valente-Lettieri alliance. Despite the many criticisms and controversies - not least the one on the relaunch of Bagnoli opened by Prime Minister Renzi who opposes the facts to the mayor's controversies - De Magistris seems to be proceeding at a brisk pace towards re-election. But the polls, as we know, are always an unknown factor.
