Electricity: transfer and supplier change with a single request

The novelty, explains Arera, will come into force for everyone from 30 September and 1 July for SMEs. It will greatly simplify the lives of users, who are currently forced to do two separate and successive practices

Electricity: transfer and supplier change with a single request

From September 30th it will be possible to send a single request for the transfer of the electricity supply (i.e. changing the name of the contract holder) and change of supplier. The questions will always be presented in the same way: both the one addressed to the pre-existing seller for the transfer only, and the one presented to the new seller to carry out the transfer and change of company at the same time. The novelty was introduced with an Arera resolution aimed at stimulating competition and simplifying customer practices.

To date, in fact, the only thing that can be done is to act in two steps: first make the transfer and then change the supplier, with two separate and successive procedures.

The new single procedure will enter into force from 1 July only for customers of the Gradual Protection Service (small businesses) and definitively from 30 September for all customers, domestic and otherwise, in order to allow the vendor companies to align their systems.

Once the transfer has been requested, you will receive an answer within three working days. In case of acceptance, the seller will be required to complete the transfer within five days of the request. Otherwise, the customer remains free to turn to another vendor on the open market, the provider of the gradual protection service or the provider of the last resort service.
