Electricity, Terna connects France and Italy

The electricity interconnection between Italy and France is approaching. The Italian electricity group led by the new CEO, Luigi Ferraris, has signed an agreement with the Interconnector Italia consortium for the construction and operation of the private part of the 320 kV direct current electricity interconnection project which will link Italy and France in the future of the single electricity market.

The total investment will be around 800 million euros and the power line, which will be ready in 2020, will be the longest direct current cable power line in the world: 190 km and virtually invisible to minimize the impact on the landscape.

The connection will make it possible to increase the electricity exchange capacity between Italy and France by 40%.
