In April, the demand for electricity in Italy decreased by 1,8% compared to the same month last year. This was communicated by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid. Considering that this year there was an average monthly temperature one and a half degrees higher than in April 2015 and that there was a different arrangement of holidays (in 2015 Easter fell in the month of April), the demand for electricity total of 23,5 billion kWh corresponds to a decrease of 2,2%. In the first four months of 2016, the demand for electricity decreased by 1,7% compared to the values ​​of the corresponding period of 2015; with the same calendar, the result is -2,2%.

Of the 23,5 billion kWh required in April 2016, 46,9% is distributed in the North, 29,8% in the Center and 23,3% in the South. At a territorial level, the demand for energy Electricity in April 2016 was down everywhere: -1,3% in the North, -2,8% in the Center and -3,6% in the South. In economic terms, the seasonally adjusted variation of electricity demand in April 2016 compared in March it was equal to -0,5%.

The trend profile remains decreasing. In April 2016, 85,2% of the demand for electricity was met with domestic production and the remainder (14,8%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (20,3 billion kWh) decreased by 2,4% compared to April 2015. Sources of geothermal production increased (+0,6%), water (+1,4% ) and wind (+7,3%), thermoelectric (-1,5%) and photovoltaic (-17,6%) sources are down.
