Electoral law, M5S asks members for ok

The path of the electoral law in the Chamber is complicated, after 66 snipers appeared in the first vote on the preliminary rulings - 209 amendments presented - The 5 Star Movement requested and obtained the postponement until Monday: "New online votes for members, they will decide ”.

First obstacles to the approval of the electoral law in the Chamber. The "German" model, which seemed to have found a peaceful convergence between the four main parties, is now being challenged with 209 amendments presented by minor parties and the 5 Star Movement: out of a hundred of these amendments, the centrists and the Mdp, opposed to the reform, they asked for and obtained a secret ballot, e the first case of snipers occurred in the vote on the preliminary rulings, for which several votes were missing compared to the sum of the 4 groups.

“In the preliminary rulings there were 100 fewer votes, I remind you what happened when there were 101 …”, commented the group leader dem Ettore Rosato at the assembly of the Democratic Party in the Chamber, recalling the failed election of Prodi in 2013 to the Presidency of the Republic. On balance and net of deputies on mission, to the majority who support the reform of the electoral law in reality, 66 votes were missing on the preliminary rulings, according to the reading of the printouts of the secret ballot.

The other obstacle is that of the postponement, requested by the 5 Star Movement which however denied having wanted the secret ballot. “The 5 Star Movement does not have the will to bury the law. He wants to vote in front of the Italians on this electoral law and on the improvements it deems important”, specified the deputy Danilo Toninelli. The M5s announced on Beppe Grillo's blog that it was working on changes, especially for preferences and split voting, saying that the law that will come out of the debate in Parliament will have to be revoted by the members over the weekend, thus putting the pact at risk: “Today the votes on the electoral law began in the Chamber. As we have already done in the committee, in the plenary too we will try in every possible way to obtain new improvements, such as separate voting, preferences and governance corrections. We don't know if we'll make it because it's not just up to us. We have already achieved important results such as the cancellation of multiple candidatures and blocked list candidates”.

Trying to drown out the crunches of the chord shortly after Grillo again on Twitter: “The Movement wants the electoral law and the vote. Members will be called to ratify the final text: this is our method!”, as if to underline that the word given to the M5s base is more a question of method. The M5s ballet punctually provoked the reaction of the Pd secretary, Matteo Renzi: “The grillini change their mind on the electoral law that they themselves wanted and voted for. It's been two days and they've already changed their position? Two days!”, he writes in an Instagram post.

Request, that of postponement to Monday for the vote, accepted by the Democratic Party and the Speaker of the Chamber Laura Boldrini.
