Egypt: eviction postponed, Morsi supporters remain in the streets

The Egyptian security forces have so far not started operations to disperse supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi from the squares in Cairo. The clearing raid should have started at dawn.

In a climate of expectation and extreme tension, Morsi's supporters continue to preside over the squares of Cairo. Before the intervention, senior police and interior ministry officials said, "new warnings" will be given to the demonstrators to leave Rabaa al-Adawiya square and Nahda square. Once the siege begins, the police will wait "two or three days before intervening to disperse the demonstrators".

Great concern on the part of the international community which fears a new bloodbath in the event of intervention by the forces of order. In fact, since President Morsi was ousted, there have been over 250 victims in the clashes that broke out in the country. In the meantime, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi invited the international community to "have faith in the new Egyptian government, which will be able to restore order and revive the economy".

Another hot front is that of the Sinai where three Egyptian helicopters carried out a raid against suspected Islamic soldiers, killing at least 12. Army spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Ali confirmed the operation, explaining that the target was 25 militants, wanted for an attack on Egyptian soldiers and the kidnapping of seven members of the security forces.
