The official results, as explained on the eve of the vote, are expected on Thursday the 21st. But in the meantime, a thousand Muslim Brothers have already gone to Tahrir Square to celebrate their candidate's victory.

Morsi thanked all the Egyptians who participated in the elections and a "greeting of peace even to those who did not vote for me". The staff of Shafik, Mubarak's former prime minister, described himself as "amazed by the speech" of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, which "represents - he continues - a violation of the laws of the electoral commission.
