Trump effect, Electrolux increases factories in the US

A few weeks after Trump's violent attack on Korean competitors with the application of heavy duties on the prices of washing machines, the American producers of Majap not only did not relocate but, reassured by Trump's protectionism, they invested by increasing the production capacity of the factories. Electrolux USA has in fact communicated that it will invest over half a billion dollars to renovate and expand the current factories and for a new kitchen line of its flagship brand Frigidaire. More than 250 million have been allocated for the Springfield factory which will increase by 400 thousand square meters to update the production lines and to produce a brand new collection of freestanding kitchens.

Not only that, because according to Twice, another 250 million are being allocated for the Anderson factory, where they are produced refrigerators and freezers and that they will have a considerable expansion of models still under the Frigidaire brand. Renovation, upgrade and implementation will start this year and finish in 2019. A portion of the production lines will be moved to the St.Cloud plant and the company has committed 75 million dollars for a restructuring that will lead to the cessation of operations by 2019.

“We are committed to supporting the employees who will be involved in this restructuring – said an Electrolux spokesman – which will lead to a consolidation of activities. These improvements are intended to make Frigidaire our manufacturing base in the United States. Part of the investments will go to finance the capital increase of resources and to support a great development of innovations and production automations in the next 3-4 years”.
