Egypt effect on petrol, new price increases are coming

Political uncertainty in Egypt still weighs on fuel prices. According to the monitoring of Quotidiano Energia, “the week on the network begins in the sign of price increases. Eni has decided to raise the recommended petrol and diesel prices again by one cent per litre”. On the other hand, Ip (+0,5 cents on green) and Esso (+0,5 cents on petrol and diesel) moved over the weekend. And on international markets, prices are still rising, especially for petrol.

On the territory, underlines Quotidiano Energia, the price lists are "naturally on the rise" and "larger increases will also be inevitable in the next few days, if the international situation does not bring relief". The national averages for petrol and diesel are respectively 1,824 euros per liter and 1,722 euros (LPG at 0,771 euros). The peaks are 1,860 euros for green and 1,741 euros for diesel.

The fuel increases in recent days "are completely unjustified" and "represent clear economic damage for motorists", says Codacons, which will file "a new complaint with the Rome and Milan prosecutors, already charged with investigating speculation related to fuels, to verify whether the latest increases in the price lists could constitute criminally relevant cases, such as defrauding motorists".

According to the consumers' association, "the tensions in Egypt cannot have repercussions on the prices of petrol and diesel sold today in our country because the fuels supplied in recent days by Italian distributors were purchased by the oil companies weeks, if not months ago, i.e. when the situation in Egypt was still normal. The consequences of the Egyptian clashes on oil prices and therefore on pump prices should not be seen immediately, but only in the next few weeks”.
