Culture effect: Matera favorite destination for Easter

Culture effect: Matera favorite destination for Easter

The appointment as European Capital of Culture benefits, as indeed it was foreseeable, in Matera, which according to bookings on Airbnb at Easter it will be the favorite destination for Italians. This year Easter happens far ahead, on April 21st in the middle of spring, and the milder climate (actually it is already milder now…) and the proximity of other festivities such as April 25th and May 1st will favor bridges and travel: thus the city of the Sassi, according to the data released by the holiday home platform, will register record arrivals, tripling the performance of 2018. Matera is also the only Italian destination in the top 5: to find another one you have to go to the sixth position of Trieste, preceded in order by hot and foreign destinations (and also medium-long range) such as Cordoba, Havana , Granada and Nice. Vienna, Naples, Siena and Malaga complete the top 10 positions.

To attract visitors to the splendid city of Basilicata is obviously the busy calendar of events linked to culture, but also some specific projects such as "Italian Sabbatical", which turned the spotlight on the small village of Grottole. Italian Sabbatical is an initiative sponsored by Airbnb and promoted by the local non-profit Wonder Grottole, which offers 4 people from all over the world the opportunity to move to the Lucanian village for 3 months by becoming volunteers and supporting its rebirth. In general, throughout the year, Airbnb and the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation will work side by side on a variety of initiatives in support of innovative projects aimed at promoting sustainable tourism for the benefit of local communities. The success already demonstrated for the Easter period demonstrates once again the strong connection between culture and tourism, and therefore the economic repercussions of everything related to the concept of "beauty": 16,5% of GDP is worth throughout Italy, according to the estimates by the Symbola Foundation with Unioncamere.

The Airbnb ranking also certifies the growth of Napoli, which had been crowned by Airbnb travelers as an Italian destination most popular for the bridge of November 1, 2018, and which is reconfirmed among the most popular short-haul destinations also for Easter, with arrivals tripled compared to last year in this case as well. However, this year, thanks to possible bridges, abroad will also be in fashion.
