Brexit effect: EasyJet moves to Austria

Easy Jet prepares the ground for post-Brexit by setting up a new company: EasyJet Europe, based in Vienna. The aim is to maintain the status of European company, thus being able to exploit all the advantages associated with the common aviation area.

According to the note released on Friday morning by the British company, EasyJet has chosen Austria as the country where to request the flight certificate and where to set up the headquarters. To do this you need a certificate of flight (Aoc) in an EU country to be able to fly between member countries after Brexit. "The accreditation process is ongoing and we hope to receive the AOC shortly," says the company.

EasyJet Europe will lead to the creation of many new jobs in Austria, but there will be no transfer of employees from the UK to Vienna. All UK workers will continue to be based at Luton Airport, the company's current headquarters, and at the 11 other UK airports where EasyJet operates.

The company's goal, according to what emerges in the note released on Friday, is to reach an agreement with the British government that can ensure a minimum number of flights between the United Kingdom and the EU.

The episode is part of the great migration of companies from the United Kingdom to EU countries that is beginning. Italy is also bidding to host the registered offices of as many British companies as possible.

A few days ago were the statements of the eccentric CEO of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, who said he was ready to cancel EU-UK flights starting from 2019.
